Apples Work Magic On Bad Cholesterol

Written by Harold Gunatillake-Health writer

Polyphenols and soluble fiber are found in a variety of other fruits and vegetables, such as grapes, berries, and peppers. Pectin is a complex carbohydrate and soluble fiber that is found in many fruits, including apples. These compounds have been found to possess a variety of potential health benefits, such as lowering cancer risk (polyphenols) and aiding in digestive health (fiber and pectin), but do they also help lower cholesterol levels?

It is difficult to believe that just eating one or two apples a day can bring therapeutic benefits replacing the researched medications for specific conditions.

A good example would be that statins lower cholesterol levels, but how many apples you may have to consume a day to get that same benefit as one tablet of statin.

Most of these experiments are done on rats and not on humans.

If you wish to get therapeutic benefits you may have to take polyphenol, fiber, and pectin supplements together in order to lower your cholesterol.

Enjoy an apple a day, they are delicious fruits, but don't expect magic cures from it.

Do not peel the skin of an apple as most of the pectin is just under the skin.

Hope this information will benefit those who eat an apple a day to keep the doctor away.
